Setting up IINA (macOS)

IINA 1.2.0 Now IINA is shipped with a universal binary that run natively on both Intel and M1-based Macs. Apart from the universal binary, there is nothing changed from v1.1.2. Therefore, if you are using an Intel-based Mac, you may skip this update safely until we have prepared separate builds for different architectures.

To minimize installation problems please consider using at least macOS 10.14.6! See instructions for 10.13 and earlier below.

Basic settings

The following steps are essential after every IINA update!

• Install IINA, let's assume that you've it in /Applications/IINA.app
• Important! Launch it for the first time, then exit.
• Open Terminal and remove all the libmpv.* files distributed with IINA:

• Link Homebrew's mpv to IINA.app:

The rest steps are for the first time installation only.

• Run IINA again, open Preferences, go to the Advanced section. Check the Enable advanced settings option, then add a few options into the Additional mpv options field:

• Go to the Video/Audio section and set Hardware decoder to Auto (copy)

• Restart IINA again

macOS 10.13 and earlier

You must rebuild mpv with a --disable-swift option. Since Homebrew has removed this flag, you must run

Browser extensions

You can open various online media in IINA directly from web browsers by using our browser extensions.

The Safari App Extension is already included in the IINA App bundle, and you may only need to enable it in Safari Preferences. Extensions for other browsers could be downloaded below.

Nightly builds
